Two NWHVR Members win Top Awards at NCRS NATIONAL Convention – July 9-13, 2017

Ron Napoliello and John McIlvoy set out last Sunday morning in their two classic Corvettes heading to San Antonio for the National Corvette Restorers Society Convention for the chance of being judged at a National level. In the past, both had been judged at the Local & Regional level with excellent results. After three long days of “waiting to be judged”, both men got their chance on Thursday, the last day of the event. The wait was well worth it as both men walked away with Top Awards.

Ron and his 1967 white roadster won not only Top Flight but also the coveted Duntov Award.

John and his 1958 Black & Silver Fulie won Top Flight at the National Level.

Both men were congratulated at Corvette Church & Coffee and Ron showed off his beautiful plaque. Shown in the photo from left to right are:

Leon Wohltman - Master Corvette Restorer and responsible for restoring & advising on both cars. John, Ron and Bruce DeLeon – NCRS Judge and Expert advisor on both cars.

NWHVR Big Daddy Award

For many years now, North West Houston Vettes and Rods has been recognizing its members for having the fastest cars in the Club.  Our Speed & Quickest ET award is named after the Godfather of Drag Racing, Big Daddy Don Garlits of Ocala, Florida.

The latest recipient of the Big Daddy Award is Craig Calmus. On November 15, 2016, Craig's 1968 Pontiac Firebird turned in a time slip of 8.20 seconds at 165 mph in the 1/4 mile at Royal Purple Raceway, Baytown TX. That was an an outstanding achievement and the fastest time ever turned in by a member since the founding of the Club in 2004.

On hand to accept the award from Tony Accardo were Craig and his wife, Sherry and several members of their family.  In the Calmus family, Drag Racing is King and Craig hopes to best his best time in the near future.  Congratulations to Craig and his Racing Team for a job well done.
